Visa and BOCHK Selected for GenA.I. Sandbox++ to Advance Trusted Agent-Initiated Commerce in Hong Kong

Visa, a global leader in digital payments, today announced that it is partnering with Bank of China (Hong Kong) (BOCHK) in the GenA.I. Sandbox++. Through Visa Intelligent Commerce (VIC), the company’s platform for agentic commerce, Visa will provide the trusted infrastructure, controls and connectivity needed for AI agents to securely discover, initiate and complete transactions. The pilot will conduct a proof-of-concept testing, which aims to connect BOCHK's AI Agent within the BoC Pay+ ecosystem with servicing platforms like OpenRice and China Mobile Hong Kong (CMHK), enabling secure, consent-based agentic commerce in a risk-controlled sandbox environment.

Supporting government vision and building a thriving cross-sector ecosystem
Within this collaborative environment, Visa as a global payment network is contributing through tokenisation capabilities, authentication and expertise in secure digital commerce to help enable agent-initiated payments within a regulated framework. By working alongside regulators and ecosystem partners, Visa is helping establish the foundation for AI-powered commerce to scale safely and responsibly.

By connecting financial institutions, a dining platform, and a telecommunications operator within a single regulated framework, this project demonstrates how cross-sector collaboration can drive meaningful digital transformation. Establishing this shared underlying operating framework ensures that autonomous AI agents can interact across different services while maintaining the controls and protections that underpin the Visa network.

Orchestrating agent-initiated payments via Visa Intelligent Commerce (VIC)
Through the integrated BoC Pay+ ecosystem, BOCHK will pilot an AI Agent that deliver personalised offers powered by Visa’s rewards and offers capabilities, recommend products and services, and enable intelligent payments, interfacing with the service platforms of OpenRice and CMHK to coordinate each service interaction.

Visa Intelligent Commerce (VIC) provides the technology framework for the proof-of-concept testing that enables AI agents to securely discover, shop and pay on behalf of consumers. VIC helps ensure AI agents act only within the payment instructions and permissions set by consumers, giving users greater control over every transaction.
